Investigation on the Etiology of Calf Diarrhea in a Large-scale Commercial Farm in Xinjiang

Abstract

Abstract: A variety of viruses,bacteria and parasites can cause diarrhea in calves. In order to find out the cause of diarrhea of calves in a large-scale pasture in Northern Xinjiang,stool and blood of 48 calves were collected in December 2020,and tested by serology combined with laboratory method. The positive rate of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) antigen was 8.33% (4/48). The positive rate of E.coli was 43.75% (21/48). The positive rate of BVDV by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was 29.17% (14/48). The results showed that the diarrhea of calves was mainly caused by BVDV and E.coli .
