Weaning stress is often caused when calves undergo weaning before they are fully developed. Oxidative stress is the main mechanism of weaning stress, which affects the health, growth and development of calves, as well as their future performance and reproductive ability. Therefore, based on the mechanism of oxidative stress, this paper describes the specific causes of weaning stress, summarizes the effects of weaning stress on calves, and systematically introduces how to evaluate weaning stress, in order to provide the theoretical and practical basis for calf breeding and enhance animal welfare.
