To study the effect of compound Chinese herbal medicine additives on milk production, milk quality,daily feed intake and latent mastitis of dairy cows in the postpartum period. This trial randomly selected 28 dairy cows with similar parity,milk production,feed intake,expected date of delivery and positive udder diagnostic fluid. The experiment was divided into 4 groups with 7 cows in each group. The experimental group I,II and III were added with 50 g,100 g and 150 g of compound Chinese herbal medicine additives in the daily basal diet of the control group,and were continuously fed for 42 days(pre-test period 7 d + positive test period 35d). The results showed that,compared with the control group,the daily milk yield of test groups I,II and III increased by 3.00 kg,3.45 kg and 3.13 kg respectively(P<0.05),the difference in milk protein rate was not significant(P>0.05),milk fat was not significantly different(P>0.05). The rates of mastitis increased by 0.19%,0.22% and 0.23%(P<0.05),respectively,and the incidence of mastitis decreased by 28.58%,42.84%,42.84%,respectively. The compound Chinese herbal medicine additive prepared in this experiment is beneficial to improve the production performance of dairy cows in the late perinatal period and reduce the incidence of recessive mastitis,and the suitable dosage is 100 g/d.
