Effect of Yucca Extract Supplementation in Dairy Diets on Production Performance in Cows

Abstract: This study compared the effects of adding Yucca extract to the diet of lactating cows on production performance and economic benefits through animal experiments. A total of 340 healthy Holstein lactating cows were enrolled and divided into an experimental group and a control group based on parity,milk yield,and lactation duration. The experimental group received 2.5 g of Lycopus extract per cow daily,while the control group received no supplementation. Over the entire trial period,the DMI (Dry Matter Intake) of the experimental group increased by 0.24 kg/day compared to the control group (P=0.004),indicating a statistically significant difference. Although the experimental group produced 0.51 kg more milk daily than the control group,this difference was not statistically significant. Yucca extract supplementation had no significant impact on milk fat percentage or protein percentage. However,both early and final trial data showed a marked improvement in milk fat percentage in the experimental group (0.28 percentage points higher).Supplementation increased daily profits by ¥1.53 per cow,primarily due to higher milk prices and increased milk yield,achieving an input-output ratio of 1∶2.36. Overall,Yucca extract supplement ation effectively alleviates heat stress in dairy cows,enhances feed intake,stabilizes production,and ultimately yields positive economic benefits.
