Mapping the Innovation Landscape of the Global Goat/Sheep Milk Industry:A Patent-Based Analysis of Technological Trajectories and Strategic Priorities

Abstract: [Objective] To reveal the technological innovation dynamics and development trends of the global goat/sheep milk industry,this study aimed to systematically analyze the distribution pattern,technological hotspots and core research and experiment development layout of global goat/sheep milk-related patents through patent metrology methods. [Method] Using the Patsnap global patent database as the data source,goat/sheep milk-related patents from 2003 to 2022 were retrieved and screened. By using bibliometric analysis and VOSviewer visualization software,an in-depth analysis was conducted on the annual trends of patents,their distribution by country/region,major applicants and technical composition(IPC classification),and the patent data was correlated and interpreted with industrial policies and market dynamics. [Result] The study revealed that global patent applications for goat/sheep milk have seen explosive growth and are highly concentrated in China. Patent activities in China are mainly concentrated in provinces such as Shaanxi,which is closely related to the strong industrial support policies of local governments. The focus of technological research and development has concentrated on “goat/sheep products;goat/sheep milk powder or products made from goat/sheep milk powder”(IPC:A23C9),directly responding to the huge market demand for infant formula goat/sheep milk powder and functional goat/sheep milk products. The innovation entities exhibited typical characteristics of "industry-university-research" integration,with universities and leading enterprises jointly leading technological development. [Conclusion] This study indicated that global technological innovation in goat/sheep milk has formed a unique pattern driven by both Chinese policies and the market. The patent map clearly reflected the complete innovation chain from policy guidance to technological research and development,and then to market application. The study results could provide decision-making references for the industrial sector,academia and policymakers.
