Effect of Compound Chinese Herbal Medicine on Early Lactation Performance and Economic Benefit of Dairy Cows

Abstract: The purpose of this experiment was to observe the effect of Chinese herbal medicine on the pre lactation production performance of dairy cows and analyze the economic benefits of dairy farms. 48 Chinese Holstein cows with similar age,parity,physical health and milk yield were randomly divided into 4 groups with 12 cows in each group and 1 cow in each group. The control group was fed with basic diet,and groups I,II and III were fed with basic diet +100 g/ head·d compound Chinese herbal medicine,basic diet + 200 g/head·d compound Chinese herbal medicine and basic diet + 300 g/head·d compound Chinese herbal medicine respectively. The pre-trial period is 7 days and the pilot period is 28 days. The results showed that the dry matter intake,milk yield and 4.0% milk fat corrected milk in test groups II and III were significantly higher than those in the control group(P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in milk fat rate,lactose rate,milk protein rate and total milk solids among the groups(P > 0.05). The number of somatic cells in test groups II and III was significantly lower than that in the control group(P < 0.05).The economic benefit analysis shows that group II is the best. In conclusion,under the experimental conditions,the addition of 200 g/head·d compound Chinese herbal medicine can improve dry matter intake and milk production,reduce the number of somatic cells and enhance disease resistance.
