Abstract: In cold, hot and other extreme temperature conditions, calves need to obtain additional higher energy to maintain basal metabolism and growth needs. Inadequate energy supply can adversely affect calf health and growth. In this paper, the reasons why calves need extra energy when they are cold and hot, the damage caused by insufficient energy supply to calves, and how to increase the energy supply of calves by using milk replacer under extreme temperature conditions were described,in order to provide reference for healthy and scientific management of calves.
