Advances in the Application of Oregano Essential Oil in Dairy Cow Farming Worldwide

Abstract: Oregano essential oil is a characteristically aromatic plant extract with antibacterial,anti-inflammatory and antioxidant functions,and it can inhibit ruminal methane generation. Supplementing diets with oregano essential oil or its compound additives decreases calf diarrhea incidence,improves growth and slaughter performance of finishing bulls,relieves postpartum stress and elevates the reproductive efficiency of dairy cows. This article reviewed domestic and overseas studies on active constituents,mechanisms and application advances of oregano essential oil in dairy production,summarized existing research deficiencies,and offered references for its industrial utilization in antibiotic-free and low-carbon dairy farming.
