From“Nutritional Fortification”to“Precision Aging”:Innovation Pathways and Future Trends for Functional Dairy Products Targeting Middle-Aged and Elderly Consumers

Abstract: China's accelerating population aging trend has given rise to a vast silver economy market. The urgent demand for healthy aging among middle-aged and elderly individuals has made them the core consumer group for functional foods. Dairy products,with their comprehensive nutritional profile,ease of digestion and absorption,and high adaptability,serve as an ideal vehicle for delivering nutritional and health benefits to middle-aged and elderly individuals. This paper reviewed the physiological characteristics and nutritional requirements of middle-aged and elderly individuals regarding muscle and bone health,intestinal function,chronic disease management,and eating capacity. It categorized the three mainstream product types currently available in the market,namely the basic nutrient-fortified type,the functional factor-enhanced type and the texture-adaptive type,as well as their respective innovation directions. It also outlined future development trends integrating precision nutrition,the traditional concept of food as medicine,and age-friendly design,aiming to provide reference for the research,development,and market expansion of related products.
