Investigation on the Epidemiology and Treatment of Hoof Disease in a Dairy Farm in Binzhou of Shandong Province

Abstract: [Objective] To investigate the epidemiology and treatment of cow hoof disease in Binzhou of Shandong province. [Methods] The incidence of hoof disease was investigated in 5 086 cows from a large-scale dairy farm in Binzhou of Shandong Province from June to September 2022, and the therapeutic effect of compound Chinese herbal therapy and antibiotic therapy was compared. [Results] 1 114 cows were affected by hoof disease, with a total incidence of 21.90%. The three types with the highest incidence were deformed hoof, verrucous dermatitis and hoof rot. The effective rate and cure rate were 86.67% and 73.33%, respectively. The effective rate and cure rate were 66.67% and 53.33%, respectively. [Conclusion] The incidence of hoof disease of dairy cows in Binzhou of Shandong province is high, especially deformed hoof, verrucous dermatitis and hoof rot. Farmers should formulate scientific and reasonable comprehensive control and management measures according to the characteristics of the incidence of cow hoof disease in this area. The treatment effect of compound Chinese herbal medicine on cow hoof disease is better than antibiotics.
