Investigation on the Efficacy of Compound Chinese Herbs on Pasteurellosis in Dairy Cows in Large-scale Dairy Farms

Abstract: [Objective] To investigate the efficacy of compound Chinese herbs against Pasteurellosis in dairy cows in large-scale dairy farms. [Method] Sixty cows suffering from Pasteurellosis in a large-scale dairy farm in Linyi City, Shandong Province, were randomly divided into four groups. The cows in the control group were fed normal diets without treatment, and the cows in the test groups Ⅰ to Ⅲ were treated with 50, 100, and 150 mL of the compound herbal preparation daily.[Result] Compared with the control group, the test groups showed good therapeutic effects, and the cure rates and effective rates of the cows in the test groups Ⅰ, Ⅱ, and Ⅲ were 53.33%, 66.67%, 80.00%, and 86.67%, respectively, 93.33% and 100.00%, respectively. On the 5th day after the administration of the drug, the body temperature of the affected cows in test groups II and III was significantly reduced (P<0.05), and the respiratory rate and heart rate of the affected cows in test groups I, II and III were significantly reduced (P<0.05); on the 10th day after the administration of the drug, the body temperature, respiratory rate and heart rate of the affected cows in test groups I, II and III were significantly reduced (P<0.05). On the 5th day after drug administration, the average daily weight gain, milk yield and feed efficiency of the affected cows in test groups Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ were significantly higher (P<0.05), and the average daily feed intake of the affected cows in test groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ were significantly higher (P<0.05); on the 10th day after drug administration, the average daily weight gain, average daily feed intake, milk yield and feed efficiency of the affected cows in test groups Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ were significantly higher (P<0.05). [Conclusion] Compound Chinese herbal medicine has good therapeutic effect on Pasteurellosis in dairy cows in this large-scale dairy farm, which can effectively and rapidly reduce clinical symptoms, and the efficacy is dose-dependent.
