Diagnosis of a Case of Bovine Aspergillosis

Abstract: A case of bovine aspergillosis was diagnosed by clinical history,postmortem examination,histopathology and blood and lung smear.The sick cattle showed sleepiness,depression and elevated body temperature.Postmortem examination showed mandibular lymph node enlargement,epicardial and endocardial hemorrhage,apical lobe of the lung and abscess nodules of different sizes on the surface of the lung,hemorrhagic necrosis and small ulcers scattered in the gastric mucosa of the true stomach.The histopathology showed that there were large and small mycotic nodules in the lung tissue,with a large number of aspergillus mycelia distributed in the nodules,necrotic changes in the musculi of the stomach and the submucosa,and aspergillus filaments in the necrotic foci.Blood smear and pulmonary contact film showed neutrophilia in the blood and lung tissue.The results of this study indicate that feeding moldy corn forage may cause bovine aspergillosis,so cattle feeding management should be strengthened to reduce the occurrence of aspergillosis.
