Effect of Silage Sweet Sorghum on Milk Production Performance and Quality of Dairy Cows

Abstract: [Objective] To enrich forage resources for dairy cows and explore the effects of feeding ensiled sweet sorghum to dairy cows. [Method] The effects of ensiled sweet sorghum on dairy cows were analyzed in terms of milk yield performance and milk quality. [Result] Under the same dry matter intake conditions, the average cumulative milk yield and daily milk yield per cow in the experimental group were 1 049.99 kg and 17.50 kg, respectively, representing increases of 65.79 kg and 1.10 kg compared to the control group. Notably, the average daily cumulative milk yields at 45 d and 60 d showed significant differences (P<0.05) compared to the control group at the same periods. No significant differences were observed in milk fat, milk protein, non-fat solids content, or relative density. [Conclusion] During the trial period, feeding ensiled sweet sorghum contributed to an increase in milk yield, with no significant short-term impact on milk quality. However, long-term effects require further study. Ensiled sweet sorghum, as a high-quality roughage, is suitable for promotion in dairy farming.
