Calf Health Management

Abstract: Calves refer to cows from 0 to 180 days of age. Healthy calves are the foundation of lifetime high milk production. Good calf health management is the beginning of high-quality and high-yield dairy cows in the future,and is also the cornerstone of pasture expansion and efficiency enhancement. If the calf is sick during the lactation period,although it survives after treatment,the long-term damage to internal organs due to the disease and the use of large amounts of antibiotics will leave sequelae,causing disorder of the gastrointestinal flora and becoming a cachexia cow,which affects adult production performance and economic benefits. Calf health management refers to a set of measures and a trust system for assessment of healthy calf production established in the pasture. This paper explained the details of calf health management from the aspects of pasture planning, calf area construction,calf biosafety technology, calf health management process, calf comfort control,calf nutrition supply,calf health care,etc.for reference.
