Abstract: Breast milk is the gold standard of infant nutrition, while oligosaccharides are an important active ingredient in breast milk.Breastfed infants in China consume an average of 3.5~6.4g of human milk oligosaccharides per day, while their formula-fed counterparts only consume an average of 0.6~3.0g of fructo-oligosaccharides and galacto-oligosaccharides per day.To accurately mimic the effects of human milk oligosaccharides, the level of fructo-oligosaccharides and galacto-oligosaccharides is of vital importance. Therefore, the addition level of fructo-oligosaccharides and galacto-oligosaccharides in infant formula needs to be appropriately increased.

Key words: human milk oligosaccharides, fructo-oligosaccharides, galacto-oligosaccharides, infant formula
