Investigation on Intestinal Parasitic Infection of Dairy Cows in Heze Area of Shandong Province

Abstract: [Objective]This study was conducted to investigate the status of intestinal parasite infection in dairy cows in Heze area of Shandong Province,and to provide reference for the prevention and control of dairy cow parasites.[Method]1 438 samples of fresh feces were collected by rectal method from 8 breeding farms in Heze area according to different age stages of calves (<6 months old),mature cows (7~16 months old)and adult cows (>16 months old),and were detected by centrifugal precipitation,saturated sucrose flotation and Lugo's iodine staining.[Result]The total parasite infection rate was 33.45%.They were coccidia,amoeba,cryptosporidium,strongylus,giardia,tapeworm and whipworm,and the infection rates were 27.33%,7.65%,3.27%,3.48%,0.56%,0.49%,1.32%,respectively. Coccidia was the dominant infection species. The mixed infection rate was 10.85%,and the mixed species ranged from 2 to 4. Cows at all sites and age stages were infected with the parasite.[Conclusion]Intestinal parasite infection was common in cows in Heze area,and necessary prevention and control measures should be taken.
